Before the sun sets on the summer, newcomers Jakil release new single ‘Istanbul‘ on the 28th of September via Sticky Lips Music.
As the follow-up to the tender tune ‘Look Like Gold’, the band’s self-released debut single, ‘Istanbul’ conjures up feelings of sleepless nights under a smouldering sky. A Quincy Jones inspired groove and an 80’s guitar lick slinks throughout whilst dancing around singer Kieran’s breathy falsetto.
It’s pop-tinged guitar music sliced with white-boy soul – an unlikely combination for a band hailing from Edinburgh, but then Jakil aren’t your typical ensemble – having moved to London in 2010 to write and record under one roof in between the occasional house party – ‘Istanbul’ sets a precedent of things to come from the five-piece who cite Fleetwood Mac and Michael Jackson amongst their influences.
