FEMME returns with gloriously addictive new single ‘High’ on October 6. It follows the success of Fever Boy, which was released last November to considerable acclaim; playlisted on BBC 6Music and selected as iTunes’ Track of the Week in both Mexico and Brazil.

‘High’ finds the avant-pop enthusiast at her feisty best, with a hook that you simply won’t be able to shake off. Playful one minute, soulful the next, it mixes catchy keys into her trademark mix of beats and bass, with irresistible results.

FEMME, who came to prominence after fronting Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich’s Ultraísta supergroup, has recently been touring the world, playing everywhere from Barcelona to Coachella festival, while also supporting Grouplove on their recent UK tour. The live show has obviously been making waves, as CharliXCX personally invited FEMME to support her on her North American tour, throughout September and October. So it seems now FEMME only ever pauses touring to pick up awards; she won the International Emerging Talent award at the MUSEXPO Awards in LA earlier this year, and in the UK, she’s picked up an AIM ‘Hardest Working Artist’ nomination and she also won the Rising Star award at the London Music Awards in June.

Those plaudits have been hard-earned. Described as “a one-woman powerhouse” by Radio 1’s Annie Mac, FEMME is a one-stop shop of creative-writing, recording, mixing, producing and performing all of her tracks herself; plus directing, producing and editing all of her own music videos, which have been premièred by the likes of Noisey, Spin and Dummy. FEMME also choreographs all the moves for her Bullet Girls dancers, as well as styling their outfits; demonstrating an eye for design that has had the fashion press swooning, with features in Vogue, Nylon, POP and Glamour (she’s also soundtracked two Stella McCartney collections and an Adidas NEO advert starring, of all people, Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez).

Taking inspiration from icons including M.I.A., Cindy Sherman and Debbie Harry, it’s FEMME’s combination of attitude, style and, above all, incredible tunes that makes her the perfect art-pop package that she is. Nowhere is this more in evidence than on High. With her début album scheduled to follow in Spring 2015, there’s no better time to get hooked on FEMME.

‘High’ is currently premiering over on The Guardian. Stream the track below.
