The Life & Times of Drewford Alabama is a project created by Jamie Morrison, multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, producer and band member (Stereophonics). This is the first of many projects created by Jamie to come out on his Ninjas & Wolves label.

In 2007 while touring the US with his first band (Noisettes) he found himself in Williamsburg, New York. Having lost all his possessions Jamie went to a vintage shop to buy some clothes, ‘I ended up with a jacket and suitcase‘. Returning to his hotel he found the lining of the suitcase had been tampered with. On further inspection it revealed an old tattered book.

Flipping through the pages Jamie discovered lyrics and music to hundreds of songs, and written on the spine ‘Drewford Alabama 1943-1951’.

The book intrigued me so much it didn’t leave my sight. I continued reading throughout the following weeks. I had fallen in love with the songs, it was as if the lyrics were written for me and where I was at that time‘. Jamie was amazed that not a single person had heard of Drewford.

After much detective work he tracked down a relation to Drewford, Mary-Anne Alabama. In the summer of 2010 she told stories of how Drewford had loved writing songs but never had the courage to sing to anyone outside the family. Upon leaving Mary-Anne’s ‘I picked up a guitar and a tape recorder, taught myself how to play and record. Over the next few years I introduced friends to the music, and the “The Life & Times of Drewford Alabama” was created‘.

The first release on the label is ‘Water’ (Featuring Fyfe Dangerfield), the opening track of EP1, followed by songs with guest appearances from Emma’s Imagination and Dawn Landes. This EP is an introduction to Drewford Alabama and the Ninjas & Wolves label and will be available in January 2015.  Link to pre-order: http://bit.ly/DrewfordAlabamaEP1
